Together in Christ - Ecumenical Study, Day 5
14 gathered to close this week's group discussion about moving forward from the foundation of unity. How can we further support and encourage each other and share our gifts for the glory of God? Our Zurich churches are rich with people of faith and devoted discipleship. Together, Lutherans, Mennonites, and Roman Catholics can increase our friendship, accomplish much healing and purvey the hope of Christ to our community and the world.

Together in Christ - Ecumenical Study, Day 4
17 gathered. Time was too short to address each question and observation regarding our common and denominational sacramental practices. The video clip stated that "Dialogue is not a negotiation, nor is it the pursuit of a lowest common denominator. It is rather a common search for the truth." Our group put this to work in the discussion. Relationships are transforming through time together. Beautiful. Tomorrow Cathy Regier is bringing soup for all! See you then

More Reformation decor for our upcoming commemoration. These giant Bibles were made by Carolyn and Allan for the parade in July. Nice to have another reason to display them! #myELCIC

Together in Christ - Ecumenical Study, Day 3
14 gathered. New faces every day! Today focused on the development of ecumenical partnerships dating back to 19th century where missionaries who recognized division did not lend itself to the task of spreading the Gospel. The Decree on Ecumenism that was made in the 1960s after Vatican II resulted in mutual apologies from Roman Catholic and Lutheran churches as well as shared accountability to the doctrine included in the decree. Institutional division aside, unity in Spirit brought about reforms aligning some of both church's practice of sacraments, liturgy, and governance. This process required much investment, courage, and resources. We can draw hope from these early interactions of ecumenism.

Together in Christ - Ecumenical Study, Day 2
15 gathered for an information packed session. It was noted that the political, economic, and social conditions along with other factors 500 years ago contributed to a climate inhospitable for conversation about change. 500 years later we can reflect that proceedings involving Luther were largely a "tragic missed opportunity for dialogue." The Body of Christ, the collective Christian Church, has endured through the ages because of God's abiding love and presence.

Together in Christ - Ecumenical study, Day 1
16 gathered to pray, read scripture, and share. It was a Spirit- filled conversation as we discussed how our perceptions and interactions with other denominations have changed over the years. It was noted that our common value of one baptism grounds us in a firm sense of unity. We are a diverse family of God. We may not always agree with each other, but we can always share God's healing love.
Join us tomorrow from 12-1 @ St. Peter's Zurich. BYO lunch.

Are you dressed for the banquet? In baptism we are clothed in garments of righteousness and called to daily live out Christ's mission of service to our neighbours. It is not enough to show up for the feast. We are commissioned to help the host bring joy to the banquet! As we accept God's invitation to the marriage feast of the Lamb we also accept that we wear elbow grease along with our wedding gowns.
Join us at 10am tomorrow as we rejoice in the baptism and reception of Carolyn Hurd into our confirmed membership.

A Thanksgiving Prayer God, you have showered us with blessings beyond counting, so many that they often go unnoticed. Even so, we ask for one more gift— the gift of gratitude— that we may have a due sense of all your mercies, that our hearts may be truly thankful, and that we may praise you, not only with our lips but in our lives, by following in the way of Christ and walking in right relationship with you all of our days. Amen. —John Moses, Aylesford United Church, Aylesford, N.S. Originally published in Gathering magazine, Pentecost 2, 2017. John Moses was inspired by a prayer of #thanksgiving in The Book of Common Prayer, 1559. [Photo: Stuart, Flickr (CC BY-NC-ND 2.0)] #UCCan
