A reminder: Don't miss the remainder of our lunchtime conversations this week, daily 12pm @ Zurich Mennonite Church. Soup and rolls graciously provided by volunteers.
Today almost 20 gathered to reflect on what it means to welcome the stranger. We talked about the historical cultural diversity of Canada, changing attitudes of long stayed Canadians and our reception of refugees including those from Vietnam in the 70s and our more recent influx of people from Haiti and Syria. Tomorrow our conversation turns to the pandemic of human trafficking.

This makes me nostalgic for the 1970s musical "Godspell". Intoning prayers of thanks and pleas for stronger conviction in following Christ never get old. ...

Prayer of the day: Thanks be to you, Lord Jesus Christ, most merciful redeemer, for the countless blessings and benefits you give. May we know you more clearly, love you more dearly, and follow you more nearly, day by day praising you, with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

Today is Epiphany and we celebrate the magi’s adoration of the Christ child, the light of the world. ⭐ "Then entered in those wise men three, full rev’rently upon their knee, and offered there in his presence their gold, and myrrh, and frankincense. Noel, noel, noel, noel! Born is the King of Israel." (The First Noel, verse 5; ELW, 300)

Today we celebrate Epiphany! 🌟 Epiphany means “manifestation.” On this day we celebrate the revelation of Christ to all nations. Some Christian traditions celebrate three great epiphanies on this day: the magi’s adoration of the Christ child, Jesus’ baptism in the Jordan River, and his first miracle, in which he changes water into wine. The word and sacraments are for us the great epiphany of God’s grace and mercy. We go forth to witness to the light that shines brightly in our midst. (Sundays and Seasons) Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you. (Isaiah 60:1)

Today it became public that I was diagnosed with a form of liver disease and have been learning how to live with it since October. Your overwhelming support in the form of hugs, prayers, and well wishes are more appreciated than I can say. My apologies for being unable to partake in many of our recent food-related activities at St. Peter's. I never before realized just how much bread-breaking is shared in our midst! You blessed and humbled me this morning. Your care will certainly have sustaining power. Thank you. As I join the ranks of the many prayer concerns in our congregation I rejoice in the equally numerous helping hands among us. Together we find strength and healing. God with us, Emmanuel, fill us all with hope, and joy this season and always! ...
